Police Search for Paradise Drive Home Invasion Suspects

More than $6,500 in cash and goods were reportedly stolen from the home.

Police are searching for a pair of suspects that robbed and assaulted a man and his mother in their Hercules home on Saturday morning, a Hercules police sergeant said Tuesday.

One of the suspects pistol-whipped a resident, a man in his 20s,
as both suspects repeatedly asked, "Where's the money?" according to police.

The armed suspect went into one of the home's bedrooms and demanded cash from the resident's mother, a woman in her 50s, said Hercules police Sgt. Ruben Rodriguez.

One of the suspects slapped and choked the woman during the robbery, police said. Both the man and his mother have recovered from minor injuries, Rodriguez said.

Police said the suspects made off with $2,000 in cash, $4,500 in jewelry, a flat-screen TV and a small safe.

Investigators are following leads but so far do not have any concrete information to track the two suspects, Rodriguez said.

Anyone who may have seen the suspects is asked to contact Hercules police at (510) 799-8260.according to the report.

Another dispatch from the Iron Triangle which Hercules is gradually becoming. If the council succeeds in facilitating the creation of sufficient low-income rental housing (Parcel C, Sycamore North, Sycamore Crossing), we will no longer be second place to Richmond.

Further progress on the conversion of Hercules to Iron Triangle-North Campus: Crimereports.com is an excellent source of information on criminal incidents in Hercules, and I highly recommend it. The report I received today shows the following, all within the borders of Hercules:

-armed robbery: 1
-grand theft: 1
-residential burglary: 3
-petty theft: 2
-identity theft: 1
-auto burglary: 2
-car theft: 1
-domestic battery: 3
-drug possession: 5
-warrant arrests: 3

The precise dates covered by this report are not stated, but I think I get these reports about once a week. This one was prepared before our recent home invasion thuggery.

This clearly is an exciting time to be an officer with the Hercules P.D. If we want to provide even more excitement for our officers, I propose we support the council/city manager's currently-proposed project of building rental housing at Sycamore North (including the ground floor, earlier intended for retail), Sycamore Crossing and Parcel C. Nothing is as effective at goosing the crime rate as a massive injection of low-income rental housing.

Has the City PD done anything at all to modify the door-to-door sales practices? Anything at all? Anything? Last year, a detective told me they were going to modify the procedure, has this been done?

How about having door-to-door sales folks wear a large, visible permit on their arm and have police periodically check these permits. One citizen already shared that he saw some folks walking about the neighborhood, heading up driveways. He thought they were salesmen, but they turned out to be robbers.

It's only going to get worse after the city cuts more police officers.
