Special City Council Meeting Called to Talk Waterfront Development
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday.
A special Hercules City Council meeting has been called to discuss the waterfront development project.
The council is scheduled to meet Thursday, Dec. 8 to go over several project-related measures (see attached agenda), including its Environmental Impact Report, general plan amendment and zoning designation change.
“The purpose of this project is to move the city toward the ultimate goal of building an inter-modal transit center and to provide the developer with development entitlements so that the Bayfront project can move forward,” City Manager Steve Duran wrote in his most recent weekly report.
Last month, the council reached an agreement with waterfront developer Hercules Bayfront, LLC. to purchase 13 acres of right-of-way land from the developer for the city’s planned transit center project for just under $2.8 million.
“This project proposes to develop a 42.36 acre portion of the City of Hercules Waterfront District master Plan (WDMP) area with the “Hercules Bayfront Project,” a transit-oriented, mixed-use neighborhood that includes a variety of dwelling unit types with businesses, an associated system of walkable streets, pedestrian interconnections, and public plazas with bay views,” Duran wrote.
Also at the meeting, the council is set to vote on securing insurance for the Sycamore North building for $156,000.
The special Hercules City Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall.

Has anyone done any windsurfing off of this shoreline?

Yes, I have. Kite surfed there too and lived to tell about it. I've launched at the end of Railroad in front of Sala. The mudflats limit the times that the water is accesible. If the point is ever turned into a park the amount of accesible water will increase tremendously. The Point would make a really great spot to launch a kayak, canoe, stand-up paddle board, wind and kite surf from, and could create a great spot for fishing. The Hercules Point could become one of the most accesible places in the area, just one more huge improvement for our city that everyone can enjoy.

A boyfriend of my sister's died kite surfing a couple years back. So you are a daredevil, Phil?
I hope we can make this happen. Wow, Hercules might become a resort town.

Kitesurfing is pretty dangerous. I have cut back on it but still kite when the conditions are steady and controllable. Windsurfing on the other hand I will do no matter what Mother Nature throughs out.
Sorry to here about your sisters boyfriend. What he local?

No, he wasn't local. From the Tahoe area. He was killed in Mexico.

Giorgio,
Most of the Tahoe sailors and kiters spend lots of time out on Sherman Island near Antioch. That is our usual summer spot so there is a some chance we have seen or met him. The same crowd kites La Ventana Baja Mx in the winter (along with a few other sites). We are all pained when someone gets injured or when we lose one. Kiting does have a reputation for bad situations but lots of effort has been put into the sport to make it safer and to encourage lessons from pros. Unfortunately even that does not seem to help. Some of the very best in the world are the ones that end up harmed or worst.

I dont mind as long as people clean up after themselves. There seems to be a lot more garbage and graffiti down by the shore?
