Hercules Gets New Finance Director, Says Contra Costa Times

The Contra Costa Times reports that Richmond city official Nickie Mastay will replace David Baum as Hercules' next finance director.

A new finance director has been selected to serve Hercules, the Contra Costa Times reported Sunday. Nickie Mastay, who has worked as Richmond’s community and economic development finance director, will start managining Hercules fiannces next month. Her start date is March 1, the Times reports. City Manager Steve Duran made the hire and announced his move in a weekly report, said the Times’ article. Patch has not seen the announcement the Times’ references. In his latest weekly report released to the public via the city’s website, Duran does not mention a new finance director.

I agree, lets be careful. That "chart" is not a good way to evaluate accomplishments or responsibility without a duty statement. I do agree that there is exposure on the HR side however, most finance people know when to pick up the phone and call an HR specialist or attorney. I love living in Hercules and hope to live out my days here.  I enjoy my home, my neighborhood, my neighbors.  I draw great joy from witnessing the high level of public involvement – even when people have things to say that I totally disagree with.  I have learned that better decisions get made when all view are considered. Hercules has serious problems to overcome. Most of those are financial while some are political, especially when it comes to the question of how is public's trust and faith in City Hall going to be improved. I avoid saying restored because I’m not sure there ever was much. I am firmly convinced that this city must start by righting its financial ship. Here's an exercise someone can perform using the Public Records Act. Declare yourself (Joe/Josephine Citizen) the "anti-cronyism auditor." No one else is doing this for us, right? I'm assuming that there used to be a job description for Finance Director, probably archived somewhere. Request a copy of it.
