CITY MANAGER REPORTS AND RESOLUTIONS Item 1-- Agreement with Lew Edwards Group: Passed 3-2, with Councilman Gerard Boulanger and Councilwoman De Vera dissenting. Item 2-- Received report from Parks and Rec on the department's financials. Item 3-- Sister city MOU: Adopted. Item 4-- Strategic plan: Council has additional notes it will submit to amend the plan. Item 5-- Wasetwater pre-engineering services with HDR: Passed 5-0. Apparently we will no longer be able to take anything but ad valorum taxes as a deduction. So when we do our income taxes we can only deduct the basic property tax. This is like paying more taxes. All these agencies trying to squeeze money out of us is too much. We need to develop a good retail base.   more ›

Your City Council: Safeway Shopping Center Steps Closer to Hercules

Safeway is on the road to opening shop in Hercules. The Hercules City Council passed a resolution Thursday to finalize a purchase and sale agreement for with developers from the grocery store chain for the Sycamore Crossing lot.  “This is a site that we’ve looked at for many years so we’re anxious to proceed and move forward with great haste,” said David Zylstra, Chief Operating Officer of Property Development Centers, LLC., the shopping center development arm of Safeway. If the city is able to negotiate past a deed restriction on the site sell the site, Property Development Centers would develop Sycamore Crossing into a 55,000 to 65,000-square-foot Safeway store with a gas station and adjacent shops. call FRY's and see if they want to setup shop in hercules, they will bring tons of traffic and less from best buy (which is way overpriced and lack service), Frys would help put hercules on the "map"   more ›
