The mayor responds to the recent blog post, Remembering Dan Romero.
In response to Waterfront Watch blog post, Mayor Dan Romero wrote to the website's editor, Jeffrey Wisniewski: Jeff, Your presentation of what occurred during council discussion again shows what the media can do to present one opinion, why not add part of the council agenda that shows the protocol for agendas. Process for addressing agenda items before city council. Mayor reads the agenda item, Staff presents their report, Council questions staff, Public comments are heard, Council discusses item, a motion is made, Final Council discussion, Council votes or provides direction to staff. The resident was asking to speak out of protocol, what good is council protocol if we the council don’t adhere to protocols. As to your article, I am one …

As Hercules comes out of a turbulent year, Hercules Patch asked some residents what they expect, hope and fear for 2012. Here's what Hercules Mayor Dan Romero said. Share your own predictions in the comments or see the note at the end of this article if you'd like your thoughts published as a separate article. Where you think Hercules will be by the end of 2012? Hercules will hopefully have a better outlook for what we can do with our assets, which are our properties. I hope to have a deal finished with Sycamore North that will be fair to all residents. We cannot give the property away to any developer. The Bayfront/ITC agreement will be finished and we will have a clearer outlook of state and federal grants to fund the project. Hopefully…

Hercules Patch provides a live, blog-style report of the Dec. 13 Hercules City Council meeting.
Six-month councilman and veteran city government watchdog Dan Romero was named Hercules’ next mayor at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. Romero replaces Myrna De Vera as mayor and will serve a one-year term through the end of 2012. He is a longtime Hercules resident and Kemper insurance agent with a Pinole- based practice. Romero was a Hercules City Council recall leader, winning the spot left vacant by former Mayor Ed Balico, who resigned in the wake of the recall. The new mayor was elected to the mayoral spot internally, with Councilman Gerard Boulanger nominating Romero, who was unopposed. Under newly-adopted temporary rules to appoint a mayor, council members were set to nominate fellow members or themselves for the mayor’s spot. They …

By Dan Romero I want to thank all the citizens of Hercules for opening their doors and discussing one-on-one with me the problems of Hercules. The reason for this special election is that Hercules had a City Council gone wild, playing the role of the developer while mortgaging the future of Hercules with $160 million bond debt. I and other members of the Recall Committee have committed to no personal attacks on other candidates during this election. I want to thank my opponents Sherry McCoy and Marc Anthony Jones for adhering to no personal attacks as well. Electing Dan Romero for City Council will give Hercules a council member who has already brought changes to Hercules as a private citizen. I and another member of the community were …

New Town Center, Nelson Oliva and Wastewater were discussed.
All eight City Council candidates joined in Tuesday’s televised debate, which was divided into three question and answer segments and moderated by Contra Costa Times political columnist Lisa Vorderbrueggen. The first segment included Mark Anthony Jones, Sherry McCoy and Dan Romero. The three candidates are seeking to fill the council seat left vacant in the June 7 election. The second part of the forum was made up of Mayor Joanne Ward, who is facing a recall election, also on June 7, William Wilkins and Virgil Delavega, both competing to unseat Ward. The final segment in the debate included Councilman Don Kuehne, who is also facing a recall, and Gerard Boulanger, Kuehne’s only challenger.

Dear City Council, Please read and understand what will occur in the near future: Mr. Balico, Mr. Kuehne, and Ms. Ward, your complete lack of duty has caused a multitude of problems for Hercules. Your lack of communication to respond to a City Manager that has put several bad deals before your lap has caused financial problems for Hercules. Approving a downtown project without all the funding secured is negligent on your part. Allowing business development loans far above the limit of $75,000 or risky businesses has put our citizens dollars in peril. Allowing your current City Manager to turn his then business, which carried his name, to his young daughters and no one on the council saying a word in dissent is negligent. Allowing Red Barn …
